History talks at Duisdale on the Isle of Skye
Tales by the Fireside
Learn about the mysteries and legends of Skye from the locals. From Sea Kings and Skye’s Greatest Villains to real tales of Bonnie Prince Charlie in Skye, Coinneach and Dòmhnall join us at Duisdale with a fair few tales to tell about Skye’s history.
Tales by the Fireside
What better way to learn about the mysteries and legends of Skye than from one of the locals. Coinneach Maclean and Dòmhnall Uilleam Stiùbhart have many tales to tell regarding the true stories that created Skye’s history and heritage.
They continue to celebrate Scotland’s Year of Stories, at Duisdale House Hotel with after dinner enrichment by the fireside to bring to life the mysteries and unravel the misconceptions around Skye’s heritage. The Supernatural in Skye - The island is famed for its tales of fairies, but they are only a small part of the story.
The talk will range over the deeds of the demigods Fionn and Cu Chuilin, learn of the local Amazonian women, hear of Christianity’s engagement with gods and goddesses, and of visits to holy wells and religious sites. The story will also deal with water horses, cats transforming into witches, tormented cats summoning the devil and dangerous dogs.
Finally, they will look at the range of spirits that populate the Gaelic otherworld and of the locations where one might best see them, but also how to protect yourself from their attentions.
This free event runs on a Saturday once a month at 8.30pm. We recommend booking a table for dinner before you enjoy the stories.
