Sustainability

  1. Produce and ingredients

As part of the island's rich environment, it's perhaps no surprise that Duisdale is committed to supporting Skye's abundant wildlife and vibrant community. 75% of the food we serve in our restaurant is sourced directly from Skye or the nearby mainland, from suppliers like Kyle and Lochalsh Butchers and Isle of Skye Fresh Produce Company. And because we're proud of our produce's provenance, you'll find the names of our suppliers on all of our menus.

But there's more to our efforts than that. We're working hard to cultivate a kitchen garden to be proud of, where we can grow more fruit and vegetables ourselves, and single-use plastics are being removed from our bedrooms.

  2. Local environment

We work closely with others to safeguard and promote the natural world, partnering with Skyefari to organise wildlife tours. We also support the Skye-based International Otter Survival Fund by donating proceeds from the sale of toy otters made from recycled plastic.

  3. Public transport

In 2022, Duisdale set up an initiative to promote eco-travel, partnering with the Caledonian Sleeper to allow travel from London to the Hebrides in a way that limits the use of fossil fuels. This yielded excellent coverage in media such as Marie Claire and Business Travel magazines. Bikes are available to hire at our hotel, and guests arriving by public transport at Kyle train station or the Armadale ferry can now be collected on request.
