Guests at each of its three hotels on Skye will now be able to take home their very own Otter, in the form of a soft toy sustainably made with recycled plastic filling. For every toy Otter sold, Sonas will donate £2 to the Fund, one of the world’s leading otter rehabilitation charities whose recent work has included countries as far apart as South East Asia, the Democratic republic of Congo and Peru. Guests can also name their otter, and enter the name into a draw. The foundation will choose a name and give it to the next otter that comes into their care.

Skye’s clean waters mean otters are commonly seen on its shores. The Fund’s rehabilitation and release centre at Broadford has cared for more than 220 of them from across the UK and Ireland. Many of the 13 species of otter around the world are endangered.

“We are delighted to be working with Sonas”, said IOSF Director Grace Yoxon. “Otters use both land and water so they are ideal environmental indicators. Their conservation ensures healthy environments for all species, including our own, but  they are threatened by the decline of wetlands around the world, pollution and loss of habitat.”

Anne Gracie, Owner of the Sonas Hotel Collection, added: “Otters are a magnificent part of the abundance of wildlife which can be viewed on our beautiful island and are a major attraction for visitors and residents alike. We are proud to be playing our part in safeguarding them.”
