Top Dog Walks On The Isle of Skye
There are now 34 million pets in the Uk, and it is estimated that 3.2 million households acquired a new pet during lockdown.
Britain has always been a nation of animal lovers, and this intensified during lockdown when we spent more time at home. Many saw this as the opportunity to get a pet. Either from a long desire to have a family pet or simply to create companionship to help with isolation during the long months of lockdown for those living alone. Anyone who owns a dog will tell you that they are one of the best ways to make sure you get out in the fresh air on a daily basis. They are also a great ice breaker for casual conversations with fellow dog walkers.
With dogs being a part of the family, and the preference to holiday in the UK, many families now choose to take their dog on holiday.
If you are thinking of holidaying on the Isle of Skye then the Sonas Hotel Collection is dog friendly, with up to 2 pets allowed in rooms at Duisdale and Skeabost Hotels.
Skye is world renowned for its stunning scenery and rugged mountains, but maybe not so much for its dog walks. So we have put together 5 dog walks as recommended by Sonas Hotel Collection owner Anne Gracie Gunn.
- Kinloch Forest and Leitir Fura – a delightful 4 mile woodland walk with views across the Sound of Sleat.
- Point of Sleat – a 3 to 4 hour walk to the lighthouse at the southernmost point of Skye. Good spot for seeing marine mammals and views to the islands of Eigg and Rum.
- Flodigarry Fossils Walk – A short one hour walk exploring the coastline at Flodigarry – one of the best spots on Skye for hunting fossils
- Fairy Glen – a short one hour walk to visit the delightful miniature landscape of grassy, cone-shaped hills, the Fairy Glen (sometimes spelt Faerie Glen) is a fascinating and otherworldly place to visit on a sunny summer’s day.
- Eynort Forest Walk – This straightforward, waymarked walk through forestry plantations offers some fine views over Loch Eynort, with picnic benches.
